Editing, what is it all about?

Everyone edits differently

Are you confused about what editing means at Laurie’s ShutterFlutter Photography? This page explains our unique approach to transforming your images into art.

Many people often ask why my custom photography is priced higher than others. Each photographer has their own style of editing. Some photographers batch edit, applying general overall edits to all images, never leaving Lightroom, and consider it complete. Others simply shoot and burn, meaning they take photos and provide them to you on a disk without further processing. My approach is different—I don’t do either of these.

At Laurie’s ShutterFlutter Photography, we go the extra mile. I personally handpick each image, open each file, and edit each photo individually. This allows me to provide my best artistic interpretation of your images. Each session and photo is unique; in general, outdoor sessions take longer to edit than studio sessions. on average teens take longer then adults, newborns take longer then toddlers. This personalized process requires more time and therefore costs more.

What is our process?

Proofs

All proof images are globally edited initially. (Global editing includes overall corrections such as white balance, color, contrast, and exposure.) Once you select your favorites for your purchased collection, we then open each of your chosen images in Photoshop to enhance our global edits.

Enhanced Edits

We perform light facial retouching, which includes the following:

  • Blemish Removal: We smooth out skin imperfections, such as acne and minor blemishes, ensuring a polished but natural look.
  • Eye Enhancement: Eyes are brightened, sharpened, and the whites are subtly enhanced to make them pop while keeping the natural look. Eye enhancements are done on portraits with up to three people. Eye enhancements are not done on groups larger the three people.
  • Teeth Whitening: We can subtly whiten teeth for a brighter smile without overdoing it.
  • Facial Shine: Removal of facial shine for people with oily skin
  • Double Chins: Reduce double chins (nobody want those)
  • Glass Glare: Removal of slight glass glare (glare that does not fall into the eye)
  • Boogers: Yes, remove those too.

Upon request the following facial retouching is included at no charge provided it is mentioned at the time of placing your orders:

  • Removal of scratches, small cuts, and bruises
  • Lighten under eye shadows
  • Removal of moles and scars
  • Light skin softening is applied to our female clients to create a smooth, flawless appearance, with attention to not losing texture that adds realism.
  • Baby drool
  • Reducing redness from rosacea, eczema, or psoriasis

These enhancements are done with the goal of accentuating your natural beauty and personality, without altering the essence of who you are. My focus is to make sure you look like the best version of yourself, not a filtered version.

After this, any additional creative edits—like adjusting the background, removing distractions, or adding special effects—are completed. The final step is to provide you with a stunning image that showcases your uniqueness, all while maintaining the artistry and integrity of the original photograph.

This careful, hands-on editing process is what sets Laurie’s ShutterFlutter Photography apart. My goal is to provide you with more than just a photo; I want to deliver a timeless piece of art that you’ll cherish forever.
